Valentines

I sent a valentines card for the first time ever last Saturday. I'm not sure I fully understand the point. I was told that you shouldn't actually sign a valentines card, that it should be anonymous. What the hell is the point in that? You just confuse one person and the other person gets no where. Plus the only two valentines I ever had (that was a good year) were given to me directly. Oddly enough, neither of those girls signed the card either. But the fact that they handed it right to me sort of cancelled out any pretence of mystery. Anyway, at least that way everybody knew where they stood. In fact, I shortly ended up going out with one of them. That seems like a nice correct way for things to go.

So I said screw it, and signed my card. I say card, but I really mean email. I admit it's not quite as romantic, but I don't know her address and I'm too shy to just hand her a card. Anyway, Valentines was a Saturday so I would have had to either give it to her early or late.

Not that it was easy getting her email. I had to do some slightly dodgy things with a certain network but I got it… at least… I hope it was hers… If not, someone is going to be very confused.

Anyway, I sent the email and signed my first name. Now the thing is, I've only ever talked to her once and that was a very short conversation. So, truth be told, it really didn't matter that much whether I signed my name or not. She still probably wouldn't know who I was. Even so, I was a little upset that nothing came of it.

Oh well. I suppose it's taking the chance that counts.
