I have been spending a good deal of time recently updating the 'engeo' band website. All fun and games you might think, but it has led me to a realisation. I'm actually starting to run out of things to do.
Almost everything I originally intended to have in the site is now, in fact, in the site. 'A mighty feat' I hear you cry. And it is. I still stand by my comment that I have never made a more functional or better site (excluding a lot of technical issues about usability which I chose to ignore - but the next version of the site will probably correct them).
But the problem is, I could update stuff on the site, but I am running out of material to put up. We have a surprisingly large number of unfinished songs in the drawer, for instance. But I'm not going to tell you about my unfinished songs - why would you care? We have a lot of art work in the pipe line for various purposes - but until it's finished, I can't put it up. Worst of all, the songs that are finished aren't really recorded properly yet, so you guys have no idea what most of our songs sound like. Admittedly, we could put up some REALLY bad recordings for you, but I don't think that'll do us any favours in helping us promote ourselves.
I also, stupidly, forgot to take any pictures of our first gig. I think my dad might have some though so I'll try to do something with that.
I have toyed with the idea of expanding the site even more. Possibly giving free engeo email addresses, adding a tablature section, a games section, a videos section (please let us know what you think of any of these far out ideas… or indeed if you have any other suggestions). But even though that might give the site an immediate flurry of new stuff, it means a lot more work for me. And frankly, I'm not too keen on that idea either.
I suppose there are still a few odds and ends that I could be taking care of. The lyrics section definitely needs updated for a start. To be entirely honest, in the original three days that I made the main gust of the site, I was getting fed up making the lyrics pages so I just stopped after I finished the songs from the first album. Then I never got back to it, and that's bad.
Still, what you gonna do? I suppose I should really get that sorted before I start complaining about having nothing to do on the site. I just want this site to be everything I've always wanted from other band websites (the foo fighters website being the one that came closest). I've found that even new bands (like ours) aren't making full use of websites to promote their band. I'd hope that even if we made it big that we could still essentially use this site. Or one VERY closely modelled on it.
Just innocent dreams, innocent dreams.
Oh well, back to the grind…
